Oliver is a
University graduate with
over 25 years’ experience
in ERM and HSE management
coupled with strong
operational skills. He has
led numerous risk
management consulting,
ERM, HSE, strategic, legal
and project risk
engagements including
project governance and due
diligence across multiple
industries. Oliver has
gained international
experience in South
Africa, Europe, Australia,
Africa, North America (US
& Canada), Russia, the
UK and South America.
Oliver’s clients have
ranged from multinational
mining companies to
organisations in
industries that include
paper, retail, banking,
food & beverage, and
government.
Before founding Mondial,
Oliver was a Director of a
large corporate company
where he managed a large
professional team of
specialist consultants,
new business, and new
products as well as high
level client liaison and
co-ordination.
At Mondial Oliver heads up
the new specialist risk
and business consultancy,
while remaining directly
accountable for the
delivery of various
clients’ risk management
consulting requirements at
all levels.
He is a member of the
South African Risk
Manager’s Association
(IRMSA) and is a
registered lead auditor in
the UK. |

Johan
van der Walt
(B.Juris LL.B)

Johan is a
University graduate with
over 35 years’ experience
in law, corporate
communications, as well as
risk and project
management.
Before the formation of
Mondial in 2008, Johan was
employed for a period of
20 years by one of the
world’s largest resource
companies. During this
period his main areas of
focus were law, corporate
governance and risk
management. He was the
Risk Manager for one of
this organisation’s major
divisions for a period of
10 years as well as the
Company Secretary for the
last 12 years of his
service with the same
group of companies.
Johan qualified and was
admitted as an Attorney of
the High Court of South
Africa in 1984 and
practiced law and
intellectual property law
at two of Johannesburg’s
leading law firms. He has
excellent communication
and negotiation skills and
has an acute awareness of
South African social
issues.
He is a member of the
South African Risk
Manager’s Association
(IRMSA). |

Zanorashe
Bwakura
(BComm Accounting and
Information Systems)

Zano is a
risk specialist with
Mondial Consultants; he
more than 15 years’
experience in risk
management, internal audit
and finance across
multiple business sectors.
He received his training
with Ernst & Young
Chartered Accountants
where he did his articles
and undertook audit
assignments at the level
of lead auditor for
clients that ranged from
mining, manufacturing,
retail, non-governmental
(NGOs) and financial
services organisations.
As a risk practitioner he
was the Compliance and
Risk Manager, then General
Manager Risk for two
commercial banking
operations. His role
included developing and
implementing an enterprise
risk management framework,
identifying risks and
developing tools to
analyse, quantify and
mitigate these risks
within the context of the
organisation’s strategic
and operational
objectives.
Zanorashe experience as a
consultant includes
in-depth knowledge and
exposure to risk
management in the
national, local and
municipal government
spheres. He researched and
drafted learners’ and
trainers’ manuals for the
South African
Qualifications Authority
accredited Unit Standards
in Municipal Risk
Management, Audit Planning
and Internal Controls.
These three unit standards
are part of what is
required to obtain the
qualification, Certificate
in Municipal Finance
Management, NQF Level 6.
He is a member of the
South African Risk
Manager’s Association
(IRMSA). |

years’ experience in the

and during that time has
consulted to a range of
clients in various
industry sectors and
regions.
Craig is a dedicated
organisational and
strategic risk management
consultant, a risk culture
strategist who is
passionate about
organisational capacity
building and performance
management. There is no
ideal organisational
culture for governance or
risk management but Craig
can assist in developing
your organisation’s level
of maturity by providing a
proven programme with

Vanessa
Thurlwell

Vanessa has
over 15 years of
experience in Risk
Management, primarily
Enterprise and Operational
Risk Management and
graduated in 2000 with a
BA and Honours in
Environmental Management
from UKZN.
Vanessa has held positions
in Health, Safety and
Environmental Management
for BHP Billiton,
Strategic Risk Consulting
for Alexander Forbes and
headed ERM and ORM at IQ
Business. Prior to joining
Mondial Consulting,
Vanessa set up a Knowledge
Management function within
IQ Business to ensure
ongoing learning,
innovation and improved
business capability.
Vanessa’s specialist
skills include advisory
and implementation at all
phases of the risk
management cycle, from
analysing risk management
maturity and conducting
gap analyses against risk
frameworks, developing
risk appetite and risk
management frameworks,
facilitating risk
management activities
including risk
assessments, reporting,
control assessments and
conducting training at all
levels in an organisation.
Vanessa has worked with
various risk management
software systems including
CURA, BarnOwl, Risk Worx
and Know Risk. Other areas
of risk management in
which she is proficient
include Business
Continuity Management,
Environmental Risk
Management and
Sustainability Risk
Management. Her experience
in Knowledge Management
also gives her a unique
understanding of the need
for information management
and knowledge sharing to
develop capabilities and

25 years’ experience in
information technology,
previously working as IT
Manager. He has two years’
experience in Enterprise
Risk Management and
implementation of Risk
Management systems.
He has been consulting in
IT for a wide range of
clients in various
industries and has gained
most of his experience
within the retail and
manufacture industry,
including Server and
Network development and
administration.
As an ERM consultant,
Ricardo has been involved
in various risk workshops,
development, customisation
and training of GRC
software systems including
IsoMetrix and CURA.
Clients Include ARM,
Impala Platinum, Saudi
Aramco, Umgeni Water,
